Wheelchair Fencing
We are the only club in Andalusia with wheelchair fencing in its regular training sessions. Here you do the fencing, with just as much enthusiasm as anyone else.
In Torremolinos we train wheelchair fencing under Carlos Soler, national coach for this discipline, so you will have the best coach teaching you. It is designed for people whose mobility is reduced for various reasons: paraplegia, tetraplegia or other conditions that limit or prevent movement of the lower body.
Fencing here is genuinely inclusive: the club welcomes both standing fencers and people with a physical disability, and we hold friendly competitions in which both take part on equal terms. The discipline works for recreation and for competing: we have athletes with extensive international records, such as Carlos Soler himself, Antonio Garrido and Lorenzo Ribes.
You can learn all three weapons, épée, foil and sabre, and discover how fast a bout feels from a wheelchair.

Common questions
Adapted Fencing: Questions
The chairs are fixed to frames, so fencers always stay at a set distance from each other and cannot tip out of the chair. The distance is set with the arm outstretched, touching the opponent's elbow with the tip of the weapon. Hits land quickly, especially in sabre, so you have to train your reflexes. It is great fun.
Of course, you can train with the rest of the group. We are always glad when standing fencers come and give it a try. To compete officially in this category, you do need an impairment that justifies using a wheelchair.
Yes: category A (the impairment does not prevent movement of the lower body), category B (the lower body is affected but abdominal movement is kept) and category C (people who have lost abdominal strength, as in cases of tetraplegia).
In your first month, you can use the club's equipment for free. From the second month you can buy your own, or rent the electrical equipment (electric jacket, mask and sabre) for €5 per item per month.
If another fencer is able to train in the evening, we can open that up occasionally, as long as you let the available coaches know in advance.
Yes, on exactly the same terms as in the Adults group.
Yes, sports medical insurance is compulsory. It is handled by the FEDDF (the Spanish Federation of Athletes with Physical Disabilities), and we take care of your licence paperwork.
